As part of this term’s topic on Food, the Nursery and Reception children from St. Martin’s Ampleforth visited the Thomas the Baker Factory in Helmsley. They were greeted by Rob, who helped everyone into their overalls and hairnets before showing the children around the factory, where they had a chance to see and watch the large machines that make all the Thomas’ bread and cakes.
Rob also showed the children all the trays of prepared cakes that were awaiting delivery to the Thomas the Baker shops.
At the end of the visit every child had the chance to decorate their own piece of gingerbread and bat biscuit with liquid chocolate, sprinkles and Smarties. All the biscuits were then taken back to school and eaten for afternoon tea with a cold glass of milk – delicious.
Thanks to everyone at the Factory who made our visit so enjoyable.
