Over 200 competitors entered the N.S.E.A. Show Jumping Qualifier at Northallerton Equestrian Centre on Saturday 14th February, and against some really strong opposition, the Queen Marys girls produced some great results in what proved to be a very long and tiring day.
The Junior team of Amelia Murray, Amy Bell, Tara Barker, and Jemima Sanderson, with Sophie Stephenson riding as an individual, started the day with aplomb, taking 2nd place in a strong field, thus qualifying themselves for the championships at Addington in October.
Then we moved on to the qualifier, with the same 5 Juniors plus Anna Petit and Olivia Murray. Unfortunately just one pole down for 4 faults put paid to our success in this class. Our Intermediate team (Lillia Schaible, Olivia Murray, Anna Petitt and Isobel Higginbotham) had the greatest chance of success as it contained three members who had been down to the championships last year. And so it proved to be, with all of them jumping accurate and precise clear rounds to take a well deserved 1st place, made even better by Lillia taking 2nd place as an individual. So they also have booked their journey to Addigton in the autumn.
The day came to a resounding success with Lillia and Isobel being placed 1st and 5th in the Open class over a demanding 1.00m course. All in all a great day. Many thanks to the parents who supported us all day both by encouraging us while competing and also for dipping deep into their pockets to pay for our entries. We are now looking forward to the next competition on Sun 22nd March which is Arena Eventing at NEC. This is not a qualifier but it will be a necessary experience for those wishing to represent the school in the Jumping with Style Qualifier on Sunday 17th May
