Two pupils from Cundall Manor School are celebrating a clean sweep of As and A*s in their GCSE results today. Charlotte Saxby, 16, of Ripon achieved total of 8A*s and 3As whilst her classmate Ross Sullivan, also 16, of Beningbrough, is celebrating no less than 11A*s and 2 As. Ross’s celebrations were further heightened by learning that he is one of three pupils of the school to achieve a rare and highly coveted A* with Distinction in his favourite subject of Further Maths.
Ross’s delight is evident:
I’m pleased. They are all pretty much what I expected but there were one or two subjects where I’m thinking – Really? How did that happen!
Charlotte is the second of four siblings to sit her GCSEs. She jokes that the pressure is now on for her younger brother and sister:
I’m so pleased. And so relieved. When my brother (who also went to Cundall ) did his GCSEs he set the bar really high. But I’ve just set it higher!
Ross and Charlotte joined fellow Cundall Manor pupils in celebrating a particularly strong set of GCSE results this year, as Head Master John Sample explains:
We are delighted to report that 100% of our Year 11s achieved at least 5 GCSEs at the all important A*-C level. In doing so, they have all secured places at their chosen Sixth Form destinations. With no less than 80% of their grades being B and above, and a staggering 53% off all grades being either A or A*, they leave Cundall secure in the knowledge that they have a very solid foundation for their A level studies. We congratulate all our students who have done themselves and Cundall Manor proud this summer.
This year’s GCSE cohort is the largest Cundall Manor has seen since it developed from a prep school to a senior school ten years ago. As John Sample added:
The growth of the school reflects not only the calibre of the teaching provision but also the demand amongst parents to secure places for their children at the region’s top sixth form schools and colleges. Star pupil Charlotte can now look forward to taking up her place at Queen Margaret’s School whilst Ross will be building up his academic at Ripon Grammar School, whilst other destinations include St Peter’s School, St Aiden’s, Harrogate Grammar School, Bootham School and Ampleforth College.
