The summer has flown by and most families are now focusing on the start of the new academic term this week. Making all those final checks to make sure nothing has been missed; Queuing for school shoes, sowing in the last few name labels.
Pupils have a mix of excitement and apprehension. Especially those starting new schools far from home. Excitement for the adventure they are about to embark and apprehension about making new friends and being away from family.
But don’t forget about the school staff as well. I have been in school all week and it has been a hive of activity ensuring that everything is perfect for the boarders’ return and the first day of term.
Boarding staff are all busy finalising dorm lists and checking that plans are in place for the first week’s activities. Office staff answering last minute questions and checking that all the student information packs are correct and ready to hand out. Teaching staff making final adjustments to classroom layouts and ensuring they are ready to welcome their students. There is a lot of work that happens to ensure that the first few days in a new school are thought through and run as smoothly as possible.
So to those who are more apprehensive than excited about the start of the new term, try not to worry, relax and just come with an open mind and a determination to have fun. Rest assured there will be lots planned for you to get involved in, so just get out there and grasp the opportunities available and make lots of new lifelong friends.
