As Le Tour de France prepares for Le Grande Depart in York on Sunday 6 July, one top British boarding school has rolled out the banner to support the peloton as it speeds past on its way to through North Yorkshire to the western Yorkshire Dales.
Bootham School in York, a member of the York Boarding School’s Association, occupies 12 historic, Georgian, townhouse mansions, all of which front directly onto the route the race will take as it leaves York on day two of Le Grande Depart.
With over 20 metres of first floor balcony, the central building in the Bootham School estate provides the ideal vantage point from which to enjoy this historic event: explained Headmaster, Jonathan Taylor.
He went on to say:
These beautiful buildings are the term-time home to the school’s boarding community where our boarders have their study bedrooms. With such an extensive frontage we really are very lucky to have one of the best possible views of the race. Cycling at Bootham has never been more popular!
