Having taken the more orthodox approach to their Bronze award expedition, walking the required two day route across country with full kit, the intrepid bunch decided to try something a little more unusual and at least as challenging.
The Silver ward requires students to plan and execute a 3 day expedition in open country side, camping overnight and carrying all their clothing, food preparation and sleeping equipment. The students’ expedition therefore took them from Danby in the North Yorkshire Moors, through Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay and on to Runswick Bay.
Expedition participant 15 year old Pip Edgar commented:
Some of the group are keen cyclists whereas some of us aren’t but we all agreed it would be fun to do something different to walking. And with the Grand Depart of the Tour de France happening here this summer, it just seemed the right thing to do. It was hard work with all our kit on our bikes, but it was a brilliant experience.
