St. Martin’s Ampleforth pupils have taken part in this year’s IAPS Ski Championships coming runners up in the U13 Boys team plate final and having a qualifying team for the Championship. (IAPS – Independent Association of Prep Schools). The championships are held annually in March in Passo Tonale and Ponte di Legno in the Italian Alps. Over 234 children took part in the event this year and came from IAPS schools around the world.
Ski racing brings children’s technical skills on in double time; the speed and exhilaration of racing is something exciting for a skier of any standard whether intermediate, or expert racer. Unusually, the IAPS Ski Championships is a team event and schools enter boys and girls in groups of 4. The main race is a Giant Slalom through 24 gates.
Mark O’Donnell, Headmaster said:
I have been organising this event since it commenced in Italy 5 years ago I especially enjoyed taking children from St. Martin’s Ampleforth who raced with great courage and skill
