On Sunday 24th June three Lower Sixth Pocklington pupils, John Chatterton, Lydia Clark and Daniel Merrison joined the bell-ringing team at St Catherine’s Church, Barmby Moor to ring the bells for Morning Service.
The trio have been learning bell-ringing on Thursday afternoons as part of the school’s Community Action programme but this was their first time ringing as part of a full team of six for a church service. It was a nerve-wracking debut but their tutor, Mr Barry Malin, congratulated them for their achievement and invited them to join the regular team to ring for future services.
Before the service the three pupils were presented to the congregation by The Rev Gail Dalley. She officially welcomed them not only to the bell-ringing team of St Catherine’s but also to the wider bell-ringing community which preserves this important traditional skill.
