The competition involves more than 1200UKprimary schools with teams comprising of one player each from Years 3-6 (ages 7 to 11). Starting off within the classroom, schools run quiz clubs in order to select their teams. Once a team is in place, schools participate in a local Area Heat hosted by schools across the country. Hosted by a professional Quiz master with players using a personal wireless handset to make their answers to 40 questions, it is thrilling entertainment for both the teams and their supporters.
With the top position changing throughout the competition, after 30 questions Queen Mary’s were in front and managed to extend their lead during the remaining questions. In the end the top three places went to Queen Mary’s School (1,975 points), Chapter House Prep School,York(1,715 points) andNewcastlePrep School(1,700 points). This was a magnificent effort by the whole team, who will now go forward to the Semi-Finals competing against schools in the North of England for a place in the National Finals held inOxford.
