Highlights of the tour included singing Mass at the Jeronimos Monastery, where Mr. Conyngham, our Director of Music, was asked to remove his shoes before playing on the organ and singing Mass at the fantastic cathedral called ‘The Sé’. ‘The Sé’ according to tradition was where St. Anthony of Padua was baptised.
The tour was a wonderful mix of sightseeing and singing. The choir sang in small churches such as Church of Sao Sebasiao which although unremarkable outside, is very impressive inside with magnificent gold leaf and blue ceramic tiles; they also sang in larger churches such as the Basilica of the Rosary in Fatima with a 200 foot tower and 15 altars.
Other highlights included the Italian ice cream parlour where the children took refuge in a downpour to the ride in the Elevator de Santa Justa.
