Krista Cowman, Professor of History at the University of Lincoln and an expert on women in politics, delivered an illustrated lecture entitled Women’s Votes and Party Politics to an audience of students, staff and York residents.
Professor Cowman took the audience through the growth in women’s involvement in politics, as campaigners, members of political parties and MPs. There was a lively question and answer session afterwards with much discussion of how women could be given a greater and more equal role in the future.
After the lecture there was a chance to chat with Professor Cowman over refreshments.
The Public Lecture series has made a strong start in 2013; other events this year have included an evening of Stargazing with The Sky at Night’s Chris Lintott, an audience with England rugby star and charity campaigner Ben Cohen, and a news quiz chaired by BBC Look North’s Harry Gration. Each has been free to attend and enjoyed by hundreds of York residents.
